Movies in the burbs of London

I went to see Star Wars Episode III last night. Now most of you who know me know that I have a love hate relationship with Star Wars. Love the concept, hate the acting/dialogue. So I went into the movie with low expectations: I would enjoy the concept and ignore the inane love scenes. That part worked out... what didn't work out was the movie experience.

Have you ever been to a movie theatre that assigns seats? I did last night. I was sitting in K 13. When my friend first told me that the seats were assigned, I was appalled. What if we were up front? On the side? With a blocked view? If you've ever been to a movie with me you realize how important this is to me! Luckily we were centre aisle seats. Relief... until I sat down. I didn't fit!! Now I know I'm not that tall, but apparently the tops of my legs are really long.... 'cause the just wouldn't fit. I had to hang them out in the aisle while trying not to kick the seat in front of me. Didn't really succeed.

Have I mentioned that it's been really hot in London this past few days... really hot and muggy, not that I'm complaining. Anyway, the cinema didn't have air conditioning. So here I am crammed into a midget seat, my legs awkwardly out in the aisle, watching a movie I knew would kinda suck and I've got sweat dripping down my back. All in all a very bad experience.

Why you might ask yourselves is she telling me all this? Just so you'll believe me when I tell you... Don't ever go see a movie in the burbs of London!!! The burbs are old... towns that have been joined to London in it's expansion. They're not like the North American burbs with multiplexes and big box malls. The movie theatres are converted real theatres from years ago and they suck!

Early days of job search

End of day two in my job search. Things seem to be going well. There are loads of Business Analyst jobs online, although most of them seem to want 3 years experience in a banking environment. I'm hoping they'll overlook that and see straight to my strong experience.

At this point I'm still hopeful. I got a callback yesterday from a headhunter... asked me to look at a job. Unfortunately it was for a pre-sales position and since I couldn't stand the pre-sales people when I had to deal with then, I was pretty sure I didn't want to become one! Gratefully he's keeping an eye out for me.

I keep wondering if this is the honeymoon period of the job search. When everything seems rosy and bright... just waiting for all those calls to start pouring in... and they will... any day now!!!???!!! I can just picture myself a month from now working at the local McDs still waiting for those calls!! ;)

No worries still keeping my spirits up... only I would expect to get a job within the first week of trying. It's that damn instant gratification... I really do need to learn the art of patience!

First week in London

May 20th, 20005 - Cloudy with sun in the afternoon.

Well it's officially my first week in London. After a relaxing month in Greece and Turkey, I think I'm finally ready to look for a job. First things first though... I had to (of course) go see a movie and buy some books before I got started. I wouldn't be me if I didn't!! ;)

Did some searching on Monster today and it looks promising... Just have to get my computer back from my friends Rachael and Gary and I'm ready to go. It's funny how it's always when you don't have the tools you need that you're the most eager to get started. I'll prob get my computer back and then procrastinate for a week.

The weather was gray and rainy yesterday... I'm determined to keep a running log of the weather here to either prove or dispel the "it always rains in England" myth. I've bought an umbrella just to be on the safe side.
